Our Journey: Building a Creative Movement and Redefining Coastal Virginia
Frequency VA was born out of a dream to transform the creative landscape of Virginia Beach, officially launching in February 2018. However, its roots trace back even further, to a vision fueled by Scott Collin, a passionate music producer and singer-songwriter from San Diego, California. Scott saw an opportunity to unify creatives, amplify their talents, and reshape how the East Coast showcases its artistry. His goal was to create not just a platform but a movement—a renaissance where collaboration sparks innovation and inspires positive change in Coastal Virginia.
With over 20 years of industry experience, Scott built a network of invaluable connections, helping Frequency VA members and partners achieve remarkable milestones, from securing sync licensing deals and industry awards to signing with major labels. But his vision extended far beyond individual success. Scott sought to create a community where artists and creatives could focus on their passion while being supported with resources, opportunities, and a collaborative network.
Knowing the journey couldn’t be achieved alone, Scott enlisted the help of two trusted partners: his longtime friend and sound engineer, Mark Miranda, and his fiancée (now wife), Danie Medina. Together, they poured countless hours into shaping Frequency VA throughout 2017, officially launching the platform in early 2018. Their shared dedication and tireless efforts laid the foundation for a thriving community that continues to grow and evolve.
Frequency VA’s mission is not just to uplift creatives but to make an enduring impact on the Coastal Virginia region. Through innovative events, vibrant gatherings, and creative opportunities, Frequency VA is turning the 757 into a cultural hotspot for locals and visitors alike. By creating experiences that appeal to young professionals, such as Writer’s Block, Wavemakers, creative sessions, album release parties, and its flagship event, VibeFest, Frequency VA is helping redefine what it means to live, work, and play in Virginia Beach.
In 2020, Scott brought another piece of his vision to life with VibeFest, an indie festival designed to be more than just a celebration of music. As its curator and visionary, Scott envisioned VibeFest as a collaborative platform where diversity, authenticity, and genuine connections are front and center. With its motto of “good music, good people, and good vibes,” VibeFest draws like-minded professionals and creatives together while showcasing Virginia Beach as a dynamic and welcoming destination for tourists and locals alike.
Frequency VA’s work has already left a mark on the creative industry, but its impact goes further—helping to boost tourism, connect young professionals, and build a thriving cultural scene in Coastal Virginia. By uniting artists and amplifying their voices, we’re not just shaping the future of art and music—we’re creating experiences that redefine the energy and appeal of Virginia Beach.
